Last Friday was our first time at Eastern Hills, where we entertained kids with the magical science behind dry ice! Ashley Shayya, Sarah Robinson, Siddhi Nadkarni, and Sarah Vollero had a blast teaching our eager scientists about states and changes of matter, while letting them handle the dry ice with gloves!
We repeated many of the activities we did at Hopeprint a few weeks back, while incorporating new ones, such as letting a piece of dry ice fill up a balloon, and touching a quarter to some dry ice to hear the buzzing sound caused by the vibrating molecules inside!
These kids were a blast to work with, and we can tell each and every one of them enjoyed every second of the science we brought. We even had one boy making sure his mom wrote down all the experiments and where we purchased our supplies from, just so that he could try all the activities out at home! Another girl we worked with actually designed her own experiment, and suggested we add warm water to one of the balloons to see if it would cause the balloon to fill up faster! These experiences are the reason we do what we do! We absolutely love getting kids as excited about science as we are, and we hope to go back soon!
