On June 23 at NLC Banquet Hall, members, siblings, parents, and community leaders came together to celebrate SciExcite’s first year! We held this banquet at to thank everyone involved in making this year such a success. It was lots of work to put together, from balloons to dinnerware to invites to music, but the night went so smoothly thanks to all our planning.
After kicking the banquet off with a delicious potluck dinner, we recognized all the amazing members of SciExcite by presenting them with funny paper plate awards and thoughtful resume awards. Siddhi Nadkarni and Sarah Vollero did a great job explaining the quirky inside jokes behind all the paper plate awards! The certificate awards were significant as well, as we created a “Secret Santa” type system with personal speeches about each member.
The evening continued with a slideshow, created by Sarah Vollero, and a video, created by Hebba Ahmad, which both gave a lovely and insightful look into SciExcite’s workings that parents in particular may not have otherwise been able to witness.
We also performed a few experiments live at the Banquet Hall for family and friends to see the kinds of activities we present to the kids- because what would a SciExcite event be without some science? Sarah Robinson, Ashley Shayya, and Isha Fazili had a lot of fun putting on their lab coats and showcasing some fan-favorite experiments: Elephant Toothpaste and Disappearing Water.
Throughout the event, the atmosphere was warm and proud, and it was clear that everyone present was truly happy to be there. From the dry-ice infused beakers with flowers, to the glowing and inspiring words guest speaker and Interfaith member Mrs. Daryl Files spoke, to Photographer Joe Hughes smiling when he snapped a notably embarrassing picture, it was really a memorable night, and a privilege to be able to celebrate in such a fun and heartfelt way. Many special thanks go to all the parents who brought food and to Fatima El-Hindi for graciously allowing us to use the hall.
This banquet just marks the beginning, and throughout it we were not only able to reflect over the past year, but think about expansion and growth. We are beyond thankful for everyone involved, and hope for many more successful years to come!
