We're so amazed and grateful to have won the 1st place prize at the 8th annual Salt City Dishes Dinner last night! Thank you so much to everyone who came to support or present at the event! It was a true honor to be among such a wonderful and inspiring community of people.
Follow us through the process of creating the new Hopeprint Tech Center, coming soon!
The brand new Hopeprint Tech Center was made possible by a generous $3500 grant from the The Gifford Foundation! We are so excited to add such a unique asset to a place very special to our hearts!
Stay tuned for updates as we continue our project!
SciExcite visited Outreach last weekend to bring some colorful science experiments to the Muslim refugee children learning there! It was so kind of Sister Tanveer to give us over an hour of the kids' time so that we could teach them some scientific concepts! The kids were incredibly enthusiastic about Makey-Makey, Rainbow Cups, and Phenophthalein Drawing! We hope to return to Outreach at least once a month!
SciExcite was invited to the Manlius Library for a special edition of Mad Scientists! The library held a Harry Potter Day, packed full of magical activities to please every Harry Potter fan out there! We were able to bring the spells from all the stories to life, using mystifying Dry Ice and Bubbles! We had so much fun, and would love to thank the Manlius Library for this opportunity!
We have recently accepted 8 wonderful underclassmen into SciExcite, and we held our first meeting with the new recruits at the Manlius Library on Election Day!
Every recruit was paired with a veteran member of SciExcite, who will mentor the new students until they feel comfortable enough to take on the work of SciExcite on their own!
We had so many strong applicants, and are excited to welcome the rest of those who weren't selected in this cycle in our January cycle! This is a very exciting and important time for SciExcite, as we find students who we trust to keep our passion behind this organization alive after we graduate!
Check out the Our Team to find out about our new trainees!
Last Thursday was SciExcite's first Mad Scientists session of the school year, and we had so much fun with some awesome kids, who helped us make some awesome goo! Because it is a library activity, we start each session with short story; in this case, Emmett read our students Dr. Seuss' Bartholomew and the Oobleck!
We then proceeded to make our own gooey green Oobleck and sticky Gak! The kids had such a fun time getting dirty while learning about some awesome polymerization reactions! We can't wait for next month's Mad Scientists, which may feature Dry Ice! Hope to see you there!
